June 9, 2024, Washington, DC
Depression is a profound issue affecting many lives, with women experiencing it at approximately twice the rate of men in the United States. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly 10% of adult women in the U.S. report symptoms of depression each year, compared to about 5% of men.
In response to this critical issue, BAPS Charities organized a health awareness lecture for women in Washington, DC, on June 9, 2024. This event aimed to raise awareness and educate attendees on depression. Esteemed speakers Dr. Navneet Atwal and Dr. Sarabjit Singh provided valuable insights into the potential causes, recognition of signs and symptoms, and the importance of addressing the stigma surrounding mental health within the community.
A highlight of the event was a multigenerational discussion among women on how to support one another and loved ones dealing with depression. This conversation emphasized the necessity of awareness and de-stigmatization, advocating for open dialogue and robust support networks to enhance the well-being of women across all age groups.
At A Square Group, under the leadership of our CEO, Dr. Sara Singh, we strongly support initiatives that foster mental health awareness and community support. We recognize the importance of such events in promoting mental well-being and are committed to contributing to these vital conversations.
